Time to return where we last left off!
Welcome back to General Butler State Park in Carrollton, Kentucky for the back nine at the Three Rivers Disc Golf Park. We have previously looked at this course during the front nine match. If you prefer the nine-hole variety, although there isn't a nine available, there is a modified eight that can be played, as the tees for 3 and 13 are very close to each other. Simply skip 3-12, and go right to 13 to finish out the short version of the course.
As previous, the yellow baskets were used. She dominated the front nine, but our competitors are getting a bit tired without any sort of a bottle refill at the maintenance building between holes 13 and 14. Will they even be able to make it through? Who will come out on top?

Starting on hole ten, an unfortunate missed putt led to him getting his first and only hole win on the match. She was able to come right back on the 11. A long 12 saw our players halving the hole, while the 13 saw her take the lead once again by one stroke. He had a chance to halve hole 14, but a missed putt led to her taking this one as well. The long 15 saw another halve. Hole 16 on the downward slope gave her a chance to make par, but a missed putt meant the hole was halved at 4 strokes each. She had another chance to win a hole, but yet another missed putt meant a halving of the hole at 5 strokes each. The very long 18 saw some terrible fairway shots by him, and she was able to take this final hole. The shot total was 49-53 in her favor.
On what seemed to be a long and difficult course for our players, she has now taken the course record. Will he be able to pull it back, or has her improvements to her game going to propel her to run away with the competition? Find out next time, but until then, Follow Your Internal Compass.
Disc golf fans, here we are once again!
Coming to you from General Butler State Park Resort in Carrollton, Kentucky, we bring the first of two matches at the Three Rivers Disc Golf Park. State parks in Kentucky are free to enter for day use, and this 18-hole course looks to be laid on what used to be an old golf course that has since been converted for disc golf. The course was designed by former World Disc Golf Champion Avery Jenkins and professional Dana Vicich, with recent renovations made to the tee pads, and is well kept by the state park staff. Our players played the yellow baskets for all 18 holes, but with a slight modification to hole 6 due to their lack of distance throwing capabilities. There is a deep forest between the tee and the fairway, so the players agreed to drop a marker, taking their third shot from that point on the fairway, and continue to the hole.
With today's disc golf match comes an addition to our players' arsenal, courtesy of Disc 'n Dat in Florence, Kentucky for their reasonable selection of used and clearance discs, along with a signed explanation of the speed, glide, turn, and fade numbers. She has added a Discraft Crank 13/5/-2/2 distance driver, a Prodiscus Stari 4/4/-2/0 midrange, and a Latitude Pure 3/3/-1/1 putter. He is now including an Innova Champion Beast 10/5/-2/2 distance driver, a Westside Discs Bear 8/6/-0.5/2.5 fairway driver, and a DGA Rift 2021 Commemorative 5/4/-1/1.5 midrange. How did our players fare on the course this time around?

He was able to get off to a good start on holes 1 and 2 by one stroke each, but it was all downhill from there. He had to take not one, but TWO penalties on the third from an out of bounds cart path not well placed for left-handed players, and those gave her the hole. Bad tree luck on the four meant she was able to take the hole and tie things up. Hole five on quite the slope was halved. Even with the modification and a penalty taken by her on hole 6, a few bad throws by him meant that she was able to take hole 6. Some play into the rough for him made it even worse for hole 7, as she was able to take both that and 8. It looked like the ninth would be the same after a throw into the rough and difficulty finding the disc, but a missed putt by her allowed for the hole to be halved. On this par 29, the shot count was 53-58 in her favor.
The course record is now tied, and she has taken the lead on the number of holes won. Will he be able to get out of this funk on the back nine, or will she take the course lead? Until next time when we find out, be sure to Follow Your Internal Compass.
Back to the links for more disc golf action!
Coming to you from Florence, Kentucky, deep within a housing development at South Fork Park, our two competitors have yet another disc golf match. South Fork Park is a free-to-play nine hole course with all sorts of roughs, creeks, and even a few large hills to challenge our players. The course, along with the entirety of the city park, is very well kept with concrete pads and terrific fairways. Her recent hot streak was snapped with a halved match last time around, but how will they fare this time?
Course Result:
Halved: 1
Her Holes: 6
His Holes: 2
Course Record: Him 7 - 3 - 6 Her
Holes Record: Him 43 - 41 Her
Hole 1 starts out with an awful fairway shot from him, allowing her to win the first hole. Although she ended up in the water in hole 2, the creek was shallow enough to play as it lied while he had difficulty getting across, giving her a two hole lead. He was able to pull it to within one on the third after a couple of tough shots in the rough for her. After a halving on the fourth, a lovely drive from the top of the hill allowed her to win hole 5 and regain a two hole lead. However, a "lost disc" in the woods for her (which was later recovered) led to a penalty stroke, and him to pull within one. That would be as close as he got, as a missed putt from him on seven, a successful long putt from her on eight, and an overshoot from him on nine led to her winning the last three holes. Stroke play saw her dominate at 45-50 on a par 29, which doesn't do much good for their handicaps.
She's almost there; will she be able to pull it to 500 on the next match? We'll see what happens, but until next time, be sure to Follow Your Internal Compass.
Time for another disc golf match!
Welcome back to the Waterville Valley Town Square Disc Golf Course for yet another match. This course has already been reviewed [in a previous match]. Not only did our players face off again, but this time had a visiting kiddo with them. Previously, he brought the kiddo to this same course in order to give a practical lesson on how to play. He was able to pull a 38, including pars on holes 2, 6, and 8. The kiddo had a 47, with one par on the 3rd from an approach shot that found the hole. While our normal two combatants were using their same discs, the kiddo would share between the two, along with being issued a challenge: If the kiddo could score 42 or less on this round, he'd receive his own set of discs. So how did everyone fare?
Course Result:
Halved: 5
Her Holes: 2
His Holes: 2
Course Record: Him 7 - 3 - 5 Her
Holes Record: Him 41 - 35 Her
Holes 1 and 2 started out even, with the kiddo getting one above and one below our competitors, respectively. A missed putt by him resulted in a lead for her, as the kiddo scored the same as him. However he learned his lesson on the 4th tee from a few miscues and halved both 4 and 5, with the kiddo one behind. A bad shot into the rough on the curved 6 meant she took a two hole lead, with the kiddo halving her. The seven saw a misdirected fairway shot from her, giving him the opportunity to pull it back to within one, while some bad putt luck from the kiddo saw the shot total be one above her. Steaming on the 8th, he was able to pull even with a par after a close approach, while the kiddo halved her. The ninth saw a final halve as he and she both made par, while the kiddo was only one over.
Looking at the shot counts, he and she both tied with an impressive 36 on the par 27 to show the benefits of their practicing. The kiddo, needing a 42 for the prize, was able to get a 41 on this round, meaning there is a new disc golfer out there in the parks.
Another draw has come, but what will happen next time? You'll have to tune in to find out. Until then, be sure to Follow Your Internal Compass.
Did I hear another disc golf match? That's right!
Welcome to Orono, Maine, home of today's match at D.R. Disc Golf's The Bear course. For the first time, our players have made their way to a professionally hosted disc golf course, complete with a small pro shop. This location does have green fees, with different prices for if you play 9 holes, 18 holes, or the other courses sponsored by the company. Although this course is still in development with some changes coming, it was of good quality to enjoy playing. Nine holes were played, although the front 9 were done, not knowing that players would go to hole 17 after hole 8, but that's the fun of it. How did they fare?
Course Result:
Halved: 4

His Holes: 1
Course Record: Him 7 - 2 - 5 Her
Holes Record: Him 39 - 33 Her
Starting off at the first tee, some bad tree luck resulted in him taking the first hole. After a halved second, some terrible throws and missed putts by him allowed her to pull even with a three shot advantage on the third. She would continue to pour it on with a par on the fourth to win that hole. Everything seemed to be going downhill for him with more bad tree luck on five, but an approach shot found the hole to allow him to pull back to a halve. Two more halves were had, before she pulled away with another par on eight, and then a long and arduous ninth hole saw her put the icing on top. The shots were 45-50 in her favor on a par 32.
She is catching up; can he gets himself out of this funk? We'll find out next time, but until then, be sure to Follow Your Internal Compass.
Another trip to the links is upon us.
Welcome to Waterville Valley, New Hampshire, birthplace of freestyle skiing, and home to today's disc golf match at the Town Square Disc Golf Course. This is one of the few free-to-play courses in northeastern New England, and near the ice arena with plenty of parking during the warmer season. Some of the signage may be confusing on this 9-hole par-3 course notating practice holes, but the design of a few are quite creative, especially the ninth. In addition, the gravel tees could certainly use some raking to be at least somewhat flat for a run-up. However, they are kind enough to give a tutorial to newbies on how to play. Same discs, same single set of tees, and no pup. How did they fare?
Course Result:
His Holes: 1

After a couple of halved holes, a missed putt found her taking a one hole lead on the third. Fuming, he let away a terrible tee shot that put him at 7 strokes on the fourth hole, leading her to easily win it. The rough proved difficult for her on the seventh, as a 7-stroke effort allowed him to pull back to within one. The tie was not to be, as a couple of halved holes would end the match, resulting in her first win in five matches. Stroke play on the par 27 was 41-40 in her favor, with both competitors shooting par on the ninth.
She has started to turn the tide, but what will happen on the next match? Tune in to find out, but until then, be sure to Follow your Internal Compass.
The continuation of the previous course is upon us.
Welcome back to Sertoma Field for today's disc golf match involving the back nine. We've already covered Sertoma Field in a previous introspective. If you are a nine-hole player, you'll need to do a sort of "modified nine" because holes 9 and 10 are deep within the course, away from the parking lot. We suggest playing holes 1-5 first, but then going up and around to hole 11, hopping over to 14, and then finishing up 17 and 18 for a "modified nine". If the wooded hill seems too daunting, replace hole 5 with hole 12 and simply double back before heading to 14, as it's a shorter hole. Use the map to figure out what's best for you.
Once again, the "spicy" red goals were used where available, and yellow where they weren't. We saw him dominate the front nine, but was she able to pull it back while battling through her slight injury?
Course Result:
His Holes: 3
Halved: 4
Her Holes: 2
Course Record: Him 7 - 2 - 3 Her
Holes Record: Him 37 - 27 Her
The back nine found him taking a bit of a lead on holes 11 and 12. A very unlucky roll on hole 14 would have been great for him if the yellow goals were being played, but alas, it was the red ones, so she was able to make a dent. A par on 16 for him put the match away, though she was able to pull one back on the 18 after a couple missed putts. Once again 18 was par for this section, though the strokes were a little closer, that being 33-34 in his favor.
Looks like he was able to take another, but she may be able to win one when back to full health. We'll find out next time, so until then, be sure to Follow Your Internal Compass.
Once again, time to head to the park!
Welcome to Walhalla, South Carolina, home of Sertoma Field for today's disc golf match. Sertoma Field is a free to enter public park, and is northwest of Clemson University in the northwest corner of South Carolina. This is probably the most well-kept course that we've visited thus far, and is home to not only many casual players, but several tournaments throughout the year. It is a full 18-hole course with concrete tee pads and both traditional and "spicy" goals, the latter of which is meant to be a shorter par used for hole-in-one contests. There is a map available, but it's so well marked that you probably won't need it.
This first match saw us playing the red "spicy" goals where available, and the traditional yellow goals when there was only one. Same equipment, no pup. She was nursing a slight injury that hampered play a little bit, but not enough to not play at all. How did it go?
Course Result:
His Holes: 5
Halved: 2
Her Holes: 2
Course Record: Him 6 - 2 - 3 Her

Right away is a potentially scary moment for the beginning player in having to go over a water hazard. Both made it just fine, and the first two holes were halved. He pulled a par on the third to take the lead, after which holes were traded. Some tree luck, or lack thereof, was seen by each player leading to another trade in holes. He then pulled away on holes 8 and 9. On what is a "par 18" for the "spicy" goals, the final shot count was 31-36 in his favor.
This match may be in the books, but the course is not, so be on the lookout for the back nine. Until then, be sure to Follow Your Internal Compass.
Welcome back for another round of disc golf!
We're coming to you from the city of Satsuma, Alabama at Steele Creek Lodge and Park for our match. Steele Creek is a free-to-enter city park north of Mobile with a newly opened boat launch ramp at the time we were there. This is a nine-hole course that is fairly flat in elevation but a signifcant tree challenge. No official maps exist (only a superimposed satellite image), and tee 1 was not marked, but there are clear paths to lead the way to each tee and hole that are otherwise marked well. The tees are not concrete.
This match saw all 9 holes played, with only one starting marker for each. Previous descriptions for equipment apply, and there was no pup along for the journey. We agreed to start hole 1 near a mailbox and electrical plug because the tee wasn't marked. How did this one go?
Course Result:
His Holes: 4
Halved: 2
Her Holes: 3
Course Record: Him 5 - 2 - 3 Her
Holes Record: Him 29 - 23 Her
After hole 1 was halved, she ran into terrible tree luck that led to him taking a three hole lead. She started to pull it back after a fabulous tee-off with him not aiming well, though it was short lived with a halve and him winning hole 7. She pulled it back in holes 8 and 9, including a near-lucky long shot for a 3, but it was too little, too late, as the early lead was insurmountable. The shot total ended with him having a 44-47 edge, though there is no information on what "par" for the course is.
Looks like he's starting to pull away; can she turn the tide? Until the next course, remember to Follow Your Internal Compass.
After a brief recess, it's back to the park!
Welcome to Hot Springs, South Dakota, and the Angostura State Recreation Area for today's match. As Angostura is located within a state park, there is an entrance fee required, whether by one day or annual pass. This is a nine-hole hilly course with one tee/basket combination set and fairly noticeable elevation increases before returning to lake level. A map is available at the beginning of the course, which will certainly be needed because some of the holes are near each other, making the course slightly confusing. Before getting into the match, we have a bit of an equipment change.
Between this and the previous match, we picked up some additional discs for our arsenal; shout-out to Parked-It Disc Golf Emporium in Corpus Christi, Texas for offering an array of new and used discs for sale at a reasonable price. He has inherited the Innova Sidewinder 9/5/-3/1 distance driver, the Discraft Hawk 0^ mid-range, and Innova Colt 3/4/-1/1 putter, along with a Dynamic Discs commemorative 7/5/0/2 fairway driver from the KDGA Food Drive annual tournament. Her selection include a Latitude Rover 7/7/-1/1 fairway driver, a Dynamic Discs Evader 7/5/0/2 fairway driver, a Clash Berry 5/5/-1/1 mid-range, and a Latitude Royal Hope Prototype 2/3/0/1 putter.
With equipment out of the way, along with the pup that remained at home, how did this match go?
Course Result:
His Holes: 3
Halved: 5
Her Holes: 1
Course Record: Him 4 - 2 - 3 Her
Holes Record: Him 25 - 20 Her
Needless to say, the terrain showed its face early and often on this course. After a halved hole 1, hole 2 being perched on a steep incline, combined with a couple of missed putts, gave him an awful 9-11 edge. After a couple of halves, he made up for the previous mistake with a Larry Mize-like long chip into the hole on the 5th green to take it. This was short lived, as his tee-off on the 6th green went down into the valley, adding a couple strokes as we play as it lies. She was unable to capitalize on this mistake, though, as this and the next hole were halved. She was able to bring it back to within one on the 8th, but the hole win was traded back on the 9th. The shots were more than difficult on this Par 36, with him having a 58-62 edge.
He may have been able to take the lead with the new equipment, but will she bring it back? Until the next course, remember to Follow Your Internal Compass.
